ALWAYS BUSY BUT STILL NOT HITTING YOUR INCOME GOALS AS A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
Aug 03, 2025
If you're constantly busy but still not hitting your monthly income goals, you're not alone. This is one of the most common challenges for new social media managers and one we’ve been talking about a lot inside Boss Clubhouse.
Here’s what might be happening and how you can start to fix it.
The Vision vs. Reality
Most of us started our businesses dreaming of flexibility, fulfillment, and financial freedom. But instead of feeling like a “boss,” you’re stuck juggling client work, scrambling through your to-do list, and wondering why your bank account doesn’t reflect all the hours you're putting in.
Let’s change that.
Where the Busy Trap Starts
Many social media managers come from creative or marketing backgrounds but running a business is a whole different skill set. You need structure, pricing clarity, and strong boundaries to avoid burnout.
You might have:
-
2–3 clients at $1,200/month
-
A calendar that feels full
-
No time for your own brand, lead generation, or growth
But even at capacity, you're only making $3,600/month. That’s the problem.
1. Reassess Your Packages
Are you actually charging for the time you're spending?
Go through each client’s package:
-
Track how many hours it takes to deliver
-
Compare that to what you're charging
If you're spending 20+ hours on a $1,000 package, it's time to raise your prices or simplify what’s included.
2. Tighten Your Delivery Process
Even if your pricing is solid, sloppy processes can eat up your time.
Ask yourself:
-
Are you sticking to your estimated hours?
-
Are you jumping between tasks or getting distracted mid-project?
-
Do you have clear templates and workflows?
Refine your workflow. Every task should have a time limit, and you need systems to stick to it.
3. Set Clear Boundaries
This is where many new SMMs struggle. You want to overdeliver—but if you’re constantly saying “yes” to extras, you’re overworked and underpaid.
Learn to say:
-
“That’s outside the scope of our package—would you like me to quote for that?”
-
“We can look at that next month if we adjust the package.”
Remember: you are the business owner. Your boundaries protect your time and your clients' results.
How to Shift From Overwhelmed to Empowered
If this sounds like you, here’s your next step:
👉Audit your current clients: Are they on profitable packages?
👉Refine your process: Are you delivering efficiently and within scope?
👉Practice boundary setting: Make it clear what your clients can expect—and what’s extra.
Then, when new clients come in, you’ll already have strategic, scalable systems in place.
Final Thoughts
You started this business to feel in control—not overwhelmed. By cleaning up your packages, processes, and boundaries, you’ll finally get the freedom and growth you envisioned when you became your own boss.
